I've Never Been to Spain....

But I've been to Oklahoma.

It's 9:00 am in Clarksville, Arkansas and it is 95 degrees. Fun times ahead.

And at 10:00 am we entered Oklahoma! Only 5 more states to have all 50 (just 3 more for the lower 48).

We stopped at the Oklahoma visitors center and had a great conversation with a delightful employee who told us about many GREAT places to visit along our route. She told us some great stories about the local areas - she even knew all about Toad Suck Arkansas!

So helpful!

Here's a shout out to this lovely lady who clearly loves her home state and sharing it with travelers from around the world!

In Oklahoma, your restroom security is of utmost importance. For information on the restroom stall/bank vault combo and a free rate quote, inquire at the information desk.

Oklahomans are very resourceful. One man found a great new way to use the car pool lane! Thumbs up to you, sir!

We took a quick side trip to visit the National Shrine of the Infant Jesus of Prague in Prague, Oklahoma. We did not go into the church/shrine itself, but enjoyed the outdoor statues, fountain, gift shop and holy candle vending machine.

We made a quick stop in Oklahoma City at the Oklahoma City National Memorial for a few photos.

We got our kicks.....
and our lunch, on Route 66, at Pops Soda Ranch, a gas station/diner that features over 700 varieties of soda, including both Cheerwine and Sundrop, and a 66 ft. tall sculpture of a soda bottle out front. Unfortunately being there at lunchtime meant we missed the nighttime light show.

After lunch, we drove the half-mile down the road to the Arcadia Round Barn, a Route 66 icon.

We entered Kansas, the land of windmills and dead armadillos. And not much else.

We managed to find one more point of interest for the day, Jurassic Art, located outside Wichita in Rose Hill, KS. Dinosaurs, bugs, dragons and other beasts water ski, ride motorcycles and guard the premises of this metal working and art shop.
