If it's Tuesday it must be Idaho. And Oregon. And Washington.

We checked out of our hotel in meridian (Boise) ID to a balmy 63 degrees and clear skies.

We are in Oregon - a new state for all four of us!!

We decided to stop in Huntington, Oregon to see the Library Museum but both library and museum were closed.

Before disappointedly heading back to the highway, we decided to stop in the local grocery store for a rest break. I noticed several rather unusual displays of merchandise -- not the sort of thing one typically sees in the Tar Heel ("Where NOTHING is Legal") state. So I asked the cashier, in a slightly embarrassed whisper, if mari-mumblemumble was legal in Oregon. Yes, it is, she replied brightly and told me where it could be purchased. I hastily replied that I wasn't interested personally, just curious.

Which brings to mind the famous slogan "What happens in Huntington, stays in Huntington".

More driving. More amazing scenery. We stopped at several scenic overlooks and convenience stores.

WILD FIRE! We are stopped in the middle of nowhere Oregon. The trucker stopped ahead of us said that the last time he was stopped on this route it was for 11 hours. Fortunately we are right beside the Columbia River, so at least the scenery is nice.

After an hour of waiting, and discussions with the tanker driver and the hippie camper guy who was handing out water to everyone, we decided to bail. We followed the hippie dippie dude to the emergency cut across and are now on our way! Traffic is now backed up for about 3 miles. Now we have to figure out how to get to Portland from HERE!

We continued to follow hippie dippie dude (and google maps) and soon found ourselves in the middle of a wind farm. On a dirt road.

We eventually left our hippie guide and proceeded onward toward Portland.

But no westward trip would be complete without a visit to some kind of Stonehenge replica. In this case we crossed over the Columbia River and into Washington state (new state for everyone but me). Once there we took a few photos of the Maryhill Stonehenge.

We checked into our hotel and then took off to Powell's Bookstore in Portland. A librarian's dream!!

Dinner late and done for the night!
